War Damages

According to FAO & UNOSAT: about 67% of agricultural land in Gaza was damaged by September 2024.
In Rafah, over 79% of agricultural land (crops) has been destroyed or rendered unusable. (The Guardian)
Greenhouses in Rafah: damaged by around 86.5% as of April 2025.

Agricultural Lands

A large part of the farmland in Rafah has become inaccessible or unusable due to bombing and destruction. Parts of the crops were destroyed, damaged, or left uncultivated due to insecurity, lack of labor, or destroyed infrastructure.

Greenhouses

A high percentage of greenhouses in Rafah were fully or partially destroyed. Reports indicate that 86.5% of greenhouses in Rafah were damaged by April 2025.

Wells and Irrigation Systems

Agricultural wells and related water infrastructure (pumps, distribution, drip irrigation, etc.) were heavily damaged due to airstrikes, landmines, and power cuts affecting water pumping.

Livestock

Heavy losses in livestock due to feed shortages, limited access to veterinary services, bombing risks, lack of medicines and vaccines, and deaths caused by direct harm, hunger, or disease.

Food Security and Livelihoods

Due to crop and infrastructure destruction and restricted land access, local food production has become very weak, increasing reliance on aid. Food crises have intensified, prices have risen, and the agricultural community faces loss of income and jobs

Environmental Damage

Bombing has left explosive remnants and soil contamination. Groundwater is at risk of pollution. Damaged irrigation and drainage systems have led to erosion and contamination. (Action Against Hunger)
